Biography

Amy Morris studied English at Newnham College, Cambridge, where she completed her MPhil and PhD focusing on American literature. During her doctoral studies, she served as a Frank Knox Fellow at Harvard for several years. After taking a teaching position, she has lectured at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, and is currently a lecturer at the University of Cambridge. Morris is married and has four children who continually inspire her scholarly work. Her research interests lie in the domain of Transatlantic American literature from 1600-1800. Her publications include a book on American Puritan poetry and articles regarding early American lyric, with a particular focus on Edward Taylor's work. Additionally, her writings explore topics such as Colonial responses to printed matter, Shakespeare's influence on eighteenth-century America, and modern representations of homelessness in U.S. literature and culture. Morris applies close reading and historical research methodologies, integrating visual materials into her textual analyses, and supports transhistorical and transmedial approaches to American materials. Areas of graduate supervision include American transatlantic writing, especially in the early American period.
