Dr. Amy Peterson

Biography

Amy Peterson is a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She holds multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Science, a Medical Doctor (MD), and a Master of Science (MS) from the same institution. A prominent figure in her field, Peterson specializes in pediatric cardiology and clinical lipidology, focusing on providing family-centered care for children with congenital conditions that require preventative treatment. She is dedicated to improving access to services and addressing the needs of patients at risk for premature heart disease. Peterson also co-authored 25 peer-reviewed manuscripts related to the diagnosis and management of pediatric cholesterol disorders. Her research interests include the implementation of universal pediatric cholesterol screening and the incorporation of novel techniques to enhance the recognition of genetic dyslipidemias, particularly familial hypercholesterolemia. Moreover, her research group investigates disparities affecting the access, diagnosis, and treatment of cholesterol disorders and cardiometabolic risk factors in children.
