Amy Phillips is a Lecturer in Environmental Planning at the University of Manchester, specializing in Geographic Information Science. Her research focuses on urban greening and examines the intersection of environmental sustainability and social equity, particularly in how urban greening initiatives can ensure fair access to green spaces for marginalized communities. She uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Public Participation GIS (PPGIS) to enable spatially explicit analyses that integrate public experiences and demands. Amy is particularly interested in the role that greening residential streets plays in fostering environmental and social sustainability, as well as how urban streets can support mobility and greening goals. She aims to further explore the role of urban greening in the context of transitioning cities to promote healthy, inclusive, and sustainable urban environments. Amy received her Bachelor's degree in Geography from Clark University in 2016 and completed a joint Master's degree in Geography with a specialization in GIS and Spatial Analysis at KU Leuven and Université libre de Bruxelles. She began her PhD in January 2019, focusing on public preferences for urban nature and access to green spaces in Brussels, which she successfully defended in 2023. Currently, she is involved in post-doctoral research projects and teaches Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic & Sustainable Decision-Making.
