Biography

Amy R. Poteete’s research explores socio-ecological political economic relations in diverse contexts, including Botswana, Senegal, and Montreal. She is currently working on issues related to commoning and social inclusion in four informal urban green spaces in Montreal: Champ des Possibles, Mile End; Boisé Steinberg; Boisé Vimont; and Falaise St. Jacques. Poteete has written extensively on decentralization-centralization, political economic development, and electoral politics, especially focusing on Botswana and Senegal. She has co-authored a notable work with Elinor Ostrom titled "Working Together: Collective Action, Commons, Multiple Methods Practice," which has been translated into several languages. Her publications span numerous respected journals, with a particular emphasis on African Affairs, Development Change, and the Journal of Modern African Studies. Poteete has received the Dudley Seers Memorial Prize for her significant contributions to developmental studies, specifically for her article on Botswana's mineral-dependent development. Her research contributes to understanding socio-political dynamics in low- and middle-income countries, making significant impacts in the fields of political science and urban ecology.
