Biography

Amy L. Powell received her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is currently a curator of modern contemporary art at the Krannert Art Museum, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests delve into contemporary art, focusing on the role of university art museums in knowledge production and experimentation. At the Krannert Art Museum, Amy has organized exhibitions such as 'Question Emphasis: Louise Fishman Drawing' and 'Autumn Knight: Rehearsal', and she played a key role in the group exhibitions including 'Attachment Time / Image'. In 2019, she opened the museum’s permanent collection gallery dedicated to modern contemporary art titled 'Art 1948'. Prior to her current position, she was the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Curatorial Fellow at the Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston, where she organized solo projects featuring artists like Zineb Sedira and Clarissa Tossin. Amy's work has been supported by prominent institutions such as the Henry Luce Foundation, the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and the Smithsonian Institution, as well as the Institute for Research in the Humanities at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
