Biography

Amy Siegel is an interdisciplinary artist, scholar, curator, and educator whose award-winning artistic work explores the intersections of archives, gender, body, film, installation, and media art. With a rich history of showcasing her work in galleries, art residencies, and festivals, she has participated in significant events such as Nuit Blanche Toronto and the Shift Summerworks Performance Festival. From 2018 to 2023, she served as the Creative Director of the ReFrame Film Festival, a social justice documentary film festival in Nogojiwanong/Peterborough, Ontario. Her academic research is deeply intertwined with her artistic and curatorial practice, focusing on feminist media scholarship and queer artistic practices. Siegel's educational background includes an MFA in Documentary Media from Toronto Metropolitan University, an MA in Adult Education & Community Development from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, and a BA in Communication Studies from Concordia University. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Communication & Culture at York University. Amy's recent publications demonstrate her engagement with contemporary issues in art and culture, making significant contributions to the discourse surrounding documentary practices and gender representations.
