Amy Wagers is the Forst Family Professor of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology at Harvard University and a senior investigator in the Section of Islet Cell Regenerative Biology at the Joslin Diabetes Center. She has a focus on understanding how stem cell activity impacts tissue homeostasis and repair throughout life. Wagers has been recognized for her research, which has identified conserved systemic regulatory axes that modulate tissue maintenance and regeneration across various tissues. Her lab's work has provided insights into the infinite potential of blood-forming and muscle-forming stem cells, exploring their roles in diseases such as cancer, muscular dystrophy, and diabetes. Wagers has authored over 100 primary research and review articles and received multiple awards for her outstanding contributions to translational stem cell research, including the New York Stem Cell Foundation’s Robertson Prize in 2013. She completed her Ph.D. in Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis at Northwestern University and undertook postdoctoral training in stem cell biology at Stanford University. Additionally, she is recognized as an HHMI Early Career Scientist and is actively involved in the Paul F. Glenn Laboratories of Biological Mechanisms of Aging at Harvard Medical School.
