Biography

Amy Williamson completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Southampton in 2008 and her Master's degree in 2009. In 2016, she earned her PhD under the supervision of Professor Mark Everist, funded by a fully funded Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) research project titled Cantum Pulcriorem Invenire, which focused on conductus from the thirteenth century. Her dissertation examined English polyphony from the 'long' thirteenth century (c. 1150-c. 1350), with a particular focus on genre and repertory. In the 2017-18 academic year, she worked as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Southampton, delivering modules such as Music Comedy and Research Skills 1, as well as Flappers Rappers: Girl Singers in 20th Century Popular Music. From 2018-19, she served as a Research Fellow on the AHRC-funded project, Queer Music, Queer Theory, Queer Music Theory, assisting Dr. David Bretherton. In the 2019-20 academic year, she was a Teaching Associate in Musicology at the University of Bristol, contributing to co-taught undergraduate modules including Feminine Voices: Gender Identity in Popular Music Culture. As of 2022, Amy is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Southampton, where she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules and serves as the departmental EDI officer.

Research Interests
