Biography

Amy Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, starting in Spring 2023. She holds the Jack Kilby/Texas Instruments Endowed Faculty Fellowship and is an affiliate member of the Texas Robotics Consortium. Her research focuses on improving sample efficiency and generalization in reinforcement learning algorithms, bridging theory and practice, and developing new decision-making algorithms for real-world problems. Amy completed her Ph.D. in computer science at McGill University under the supervision of Joelle Pineau and Doina Precup. Prior to her current position, she was a research scientist at Facebook AI Research and a postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley. Amy received her M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and dual B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has also spent years on the board of directors for Women in Machine Learning.
