Dr. Ana Casas Ramos

Biography

Ana Casas Ramos is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Research School of Earth Sciences, Australian National University. She holds a PhD in Earth Sciences (Volcanology) from Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich, where she graduated with the highest distinction (Summa cum laude). Her research focuses on unraveling high-temperature solid-gas reaction processes in Earth systems, contributing to the (re)distribution of volatiles in the environment. She conducts experimental tests on reactions involving volatiles such as sulfur and chlorine in volcanic settings, which are crucial for understanding the impacts of volcanism. Her current work aims to elucidate the kinetics of reactions between gases and rock-forming minerals, employing novel experimental setups combined with state-of-the-art analytical characterization techniques and geochemical modeling. This research is vital for understanding sulfur cycles in geological processes and for improving predictions of ore deposit formation and volcanic eruption impacts.
