Biography

Ana Paula Pimentel Walker is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, specializing in Urban Regional Planning. She teaches graduate courses in participatory planning, community development, and environmental planning. Her research focuses on disenfranchised communities and their engagement with urban governance, particularly in the context of participatory planning practices that strive to create socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable cities. Pimentel Walker's work has been supported by the National Science Foundation and investigates various topics including participatory institutions in the governance of informal settlements, legal institutions and housing rights in Brazil, and the role of migrant-run organizations in Michigan. She obtained her PhD in Anthropology from the University of California, San Diego, as well as a Master of Urban Planning and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles. Additionally, she holds a law degree from the University of Cruz Alta in Brazil.
