Dr. Ana Ruiz Teran

Biography

Ana Ruiz-Teran is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London, specializing in Structural Engineering. She graduated from the University of Cantabria in Spain with a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, where she was recognized as a top graduate with a National Prize. With over five years of industry experience, she has worked with notable companies such as Apia XXI and Arenas y Asociados as a chartered bridge engineer. Ana completed her PhD on innovative types of cable-stayed bridges at the University of Cantabria, earning the Sobresaliente Cum Laude distinction. She began her academic career as a teaching assistant at the University of Castilla-La Mancha and later undertook post-doctoral research at Imperial College London before being appointed as a Principal Lecturer at the University of East London in 2011. At Imperial, she teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in structural engineering and is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Her research interests focus on the structural response and design criteria for innovative bridge types, including under-deck combined cable-stayed bridges and the dynamic response of slender road and railway bridges. In 2021, she received the Medal for Professional Merit from the Spanish Institution of Civil Engineers.
