Dr. Ana Volponi

Biography

Ana Angelova Volponi is a Reader in Regenerative Dentistry at King's College London, where she leads the Postgraduate Program in Regenerative Dentistry. She graduated as a dentist and earned her PhD in Paediatric Dentistry from Tokyo Medical and Dental University in Japan in 2003. Joining King's College in 2008, she contributed to groundbreaking research on bio-tooth engineering, notably with an article published in 2013 demonstrating the creation of bio-tooth under laboratory conditions using human adult gingival cells. Her work attracted significant attention from the scientific community and media, including a presentation at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition in 2014. Recognized for her research excellence in Regenerative Dentistry and Dental Stem Cells, Ana has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals. In 2018, she received the prestigious William Gies Award from the International Association for Dental Research. Beyond her research, Ana is also involved in educational experiments to enhance the curriculum through innovative teaching methods and well-being initiatives at the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences.
