Biography

Anaïs Chanon is a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at the Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, where she also serves as the Programme Director for the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA). Holding a Diploma in Art and Design from Duperré National School of Design in Paris and a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the National School of Landscape Architecture in Versailles, she has co-founded GRAFT, an award-winning landscape architecture collective based in Scotland and France. Anaïs's work bridges community engagement and landscape design, with a strong focus on social and environmental justice in a climate emergency context. Her extensive experience includes facilitating community projects across Scotland, such as Balfron and Falkland, and she has led various initiatives aimed at fostering participatory design processes. She is particularly interested in the integration of art-based methods in community engagement and has been involved in studying coastal communities to adapt to climate change. Anaïs has co-directed the European Coastal Communities Research Network and continues to explore the role of design in addressing ecological and social challenges. Her research interests include design practices, landscape representation, climate action, and the dynamics of coastal landscapes.
