Dr. Anand Narayan

Biography

Anand Narayan is a professor in the Breast Imaging section and inaugural vice chair for health equity in the Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is also the associate director for the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. Originally from Baltimore, MD, Dr. Narayan earned dual degrees from Johns Hopkins University, obtaining his MD from the School of Medicine and his PhD in Clinical Epidemiology from the School of Public Health. Following his education, he completed a residency in radiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital and pursued a breast imaging fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2016-2017. Prior to his current position, he served as an assistant professor at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2021, where he also acted as the diversity and inclusion officer in the Department of Radiology. His clinical and research interests concentrate on health outcomes, particularly aimed at reducing breast cancer disparities through early detection and diagnosis. Dr. Narayan has published 110 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and reviews for several radiology journals. He currently sits on the editorial board of the Radiology Journal of the American College of Radiology and serves as an associate editor for Health Policy and Practice. Additionally, he is an assistant editor for the Journal of the American College of Radiology and the American Journal of Roentgenology, and has been involved with the National Academy of Medicine’s scholars in Diagnostic Excellence. He also chairs the American College of Radiology’s Patient Family Outreach Committee and holds the position of vice president of the Wisconsin Radiological Society.
