Dr. Anand Sharan

Biography

Anand Sharan is a Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Concordia University, earned in 1982, and has a substantial background in industry spanning several years across the U.S. and Canada. His academic background includes undergraduate studies in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and master's degrees in Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University. Professor Sharan's research interests encompass various domains such as robotics, rotor dynamics, machine tools, energy environment, and artificial intelligence. Notably, he is recognized for his extensive work in solar energy systems and has made significant contributions through his inventions and patents, including a solar tracking system for energy generation and a zero-emission electrical vehicle. He is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and has published over 219 research papers and several patents, monographs, and inventions. His ongoing research focuses on innovative refrigeration techniques that utilize solar energy, aimed at improving energy storage and usage efficiency.
