Biography

Ananda Mirchandani is a Wellcome Trust Career Development Award Fellow at the Centre for Inflammation Research, focusing on critical illness, especially the effects of critical illness-induced bone marrow hypoxia and its long-term consequences on immunity in ICU survivors. Having completed his medical degree with honors from the University of Aberdeen followed by clinical training in Glasgow, he began his PhD at the Institute of Inflammation and Immunity in 2008. His research, funded by the MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship, has yielded novel insights into the role of interleukin-33 in allergic lung disease and the impact of systemic hypoxia on innate immune responses in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). He has received various fellowships, including the Wellcome Trust Post-doctoral Training Fellowship Clinicians and has been awarded the Young Investigator Award from the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland. His ongoing research investigates the molecular mechanisms driving altered monopoiesis associated with ICU admissions, utilizing human samples and advanced methodologies such as multi-colour spectral flow cytometry and in-vivo multiphoton imaging.
