Biography

Anant Parekh is a Professor in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics at the University of Oxford and serves as the Director of the Centre for Integrative Physiology. He completed his undergraduate studies at University College, Oxford, and later became an Alexander von Humboldt Scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, Germany, where he worked in the department of Professor Erwin Neher. He returned to Oxford in 1997 as a Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellow and has held various fellowships at Keble College and Exeter College. In 2002, he received a personal chair and was appointed to a proleptic University Lectureship in the Physiology Department and a Tutorial Fellowship at Lady Margaret Hall. His primary research interests lie in intracellular calcium signaling and its role in a wide array of cellular responses, particularly through store-operated calcium channels and their interactions with organelles like mitochondria. He has received several accolades, including the Wellcome Prize in Physiology and has served on the editorial boards of leading journals.
