Biography

Anastasia Giachanou is an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University in the Department of Methodology and Statistics. Her research primarily focuses on Applied Data Science and Text Mining. Prior to her current position, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Pattern Recognition Human Language Technology (PRHLT) research center at Universitat Politècnica de València, where she worked on fake news detection, funded by the Swiss National Foundation. She received her Ph.D. from the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Lugano, Switzerland, where she was a member of the Information Retrieval group, working on sentiment tracking over time. Her research interests encompass Natural Language Processing, Computational Social Science, and the quantification of social biases such as gender roles and race in online text, as well as measuring the association between users' survey responses and biases identified through word similarities and distributional representations. In addition, she focuses on text mining surveys, bot detection, fact checking, and sentiment analysis.
