Biography

Anda M. Chirila is a Manning Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Brown University, where her lab focuses on studying the functional organization and plasticity of neural circuits that mediate the senses of touch and pain. Utilizing a combination of mouse molecular-genetic tools, in vivo large-scale spinal cord electrophysiology, calcium imaging, synaptic physiology, and behavioral analyses, her research aims to reveal fundamental principles of sensory encoding and the neural circuits that govern body-brain interactions. Dr. Chirila is particularly interested in investigating how experience and internal states can dynamically shape sensory feature representations in both the spinal cord and brain. Her work holds significant implications for addressing real-world issues, such as chronic pain, neurodevelopmental disorders, and movement disorders.
