Biography

Anders Backlund holds a Bachelor degree in Biology (1990), a Master degree in Systematic Botany (1992), and a PhD in Systematic Botany (1996) from Uppsala University. He completed postdoctoral studies at Trinity College Dublin and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences from 1997 to 1998. He became a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacognosy in 1999 and was appointed Docent in 2006. In 2011, he was appointed Professor in Pharmacognosy. He served as Vice-Dean for Research Training in the Scientific Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2017. Backlund has received several awards, including the NFR Popular Science Prize in 1998 and the UU Teacher Award in 2015. He is a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London (FLS) since 1999. His present research focuses on chemography, particularly the ChemGPS-NP web resource.
