Dr. Anders Malmberg

Biography

Anders Malmberg earned his PhD in 1989 from Uppsala University and has a significant academic background in Economic Geography. He served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Uppsala University starting in 2012. Previously, he was the research coordinator for the European Science Foundation's Scientific Programme on Regional Urban Restructuring in Europe from 1990 to 1994 and directed the PhD program in social economic geography from 1996 to 2005. He has held visiting research positions at Durham University in the UK and the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in Social Sciences. Malmberg was the director of the Centre for Research on Innovation and Industrial Dynamics at Uppsala University from 2003 to 2011. His ongoing roles include being the Chairman of the board at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study and a board member at UiT Arctic University of Norway. He is also a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and has served in multiple prestigious academic appointments and editorial boards throughout his career. His research interests primarily focus on industrial dynamics and local and regional economic development, with an emphasis on the study of innovation transformation processes and clusters of innovation systems.
