Anders Olofsson is an Associate Professor in the Section of Biomedical Laboratory Science at Umeå University. His research focuses on the pathophysiology of amyloidosis, specifically the mechanisms by which normal endogenous polypeptides transform into pathogenic amyloid assemblies. With experience in various methods such as recombinant protein expression and purification, circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), atomic force microscopy (AFM), surface plasmon resonance (SPR), and immunological techniques, he studies the structural properties and cytotoxic propensity of amyloid fibrils and toxic oligomers. His work includes a focus on well-known conditions associated with amyloidosis, such as Familial Amyloidosis Polyneuropathy and neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Olofsson’s aim is to elucidate the transformation of polypeptides into amyloid structures and develop potential therapeutic interventions.
