Dr. Andras Bikov

Biography

Andras Bikov is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester, specializing in respiratory medicine. He is an ESRS certified somnologist with a significant focus on chronic airway diseases and sleep medicine. He graduated as a medical doctor from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, in 2009 and completed his PhD training in 2014 under the supervision of Prof. Ildiko Horvath, specifically in the area of exhaled breath analysis. Bikov received a long-term fellowship from the European Respiratory Society at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, working with Prof. Peter Barnes. In 2017, he obtained his board certificate in respiratory medicine, followed by ESRS certification in somnology in 2019. Currently, he serves as the lead clinician for the Long-Term Ventilation Service at Wythenshawe Hospital, part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, and holds the position of senior lecturer in the Division of Infection, Immunity & Respiratory Medicine. His research is primarily concerned with the pathomechanisms of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and he has contributed to over 140 research papers and various technical standards for the European Respiratory Society. With an H-index of 32 on Scopus, he actively reviews for respiratory journals and is an editorial board member of the Journal of Asthma, Lipids, and Health Disease.
