Biography

Andre Celtel holds a BA in Religious Studies and Sociology from Cardiff University, and MPhil and DPhil degrees in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford. His interdisciplinary doctoral work focused on the cross-cultural construction of the ‘person,’ which has been reworked into his monograph, 'Categories of Self.' His current research revolves around questions of individuality, self, and personhood. Over the years, he has been involved in publishing and teaching, and in his current role as Director of Student Experience in the Department of Sociology, he supports students at pre-university, at-university, and post-university levels, focusing on widening participation, outreach, study skills, and personal and academic development. He teaches and supervises undergraduate and master's dissertations, but does not take on PhD supervision. Additionally, he is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
