Biography

André Gaudreault is a leading expert in film studies, notably recognized for his specialization in early cinema, narratology, and montage. He holds the Canada Research Chair in Cinematic and Media Studies, aiming to interrogate the role of technological innovation in the development of cinema's forms and practices. His current research focuses not only on the hybridization of film practices but also on historiography and technological innovations, examining how these disruptions contribute to a larger epistemological horizon. Gaudreault's work seeks to redefine the history of media by reintegrating technical issues that are vital in today's digital age. In 2016, he established the CinéMédias Laboratory, encompassing several research programs dedicated to the archaeology and genealogy of montage.
