Biography

André Nogueira, Ph.D., holds a first-of-its-kind position as Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, where he brings design knowledge to the academic discourse. He is affiliated with the Knowledge Action Business Health (KABOH) initiative and the Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships Cluster at Johns Hopkins University. His work intersects various design disciplines aimed at driving systems-level transformations. Nogueira conducts solution-oriented research that explores design frameworks and methods to enhance the well-being of individuals within their ecosystems. He currently leads projects that publish complementary paths, focusing on field-based advancements in design knowledge as well as explorations of complex application areas related to well-being. Over the years, he has significantly contributed to institutions in Brazil, creating design laboratories that connect theoretical understanding with practical applications across different sectors, thereby influencing public policy. Nogueira founded the Design Nucleus at Johns Hopkins and the Design Laboratory at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, also contributing to the Action Labs at the IIT Institute of Design. His research endeavors have been funded by several organizations including the Hillman Foundation and the Gates Foundation. He completed his Ph.D. program at the IIT Institute of Design, focusing on sustainable and equitable design processes. He also holds a Master's in Geography Cities from Escola da Cidade and a Bachelor's in Architecture from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie.
