Biography

André G. Roy has been a professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Montreal for nearly 30 years. He is an advocate of chaos theory, fractal dimensions, and turbulent flows. His research has focused on river morphology, describing and interpreting river movements, as well as watershed hydrology. He served as Director of the Department of Geography at UdeM for seven years and was Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences from 2006 to 2008. Honored multiple times, he is a fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. He received the Teaching Excellence Award from the Canadian Association of Geographers and the Michel-Jurdant Prize from Acfas. In 2003, he became the holder of the Canada Research Chair in River Dynamics. Since 2011, he has been teaching at the Faculty of the Environment at the University of Waterloo, where he also serves as Dean.
