Biography

Andrea Atkins is an Assistant Professor in the Teaching Stream within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo, contributing to the Architectural Engineering program. She brings five years of experience in structural design for buildings and has collaborated with award-winning architects on projects ranging from high-end cottages to municipal community centres. Before joining the Architectural Engineering team, Atkins served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture, where she taught structural design courses to architecture engineering students. She has guest lectured on building science capstone courses and provided technical advice to graduate architecture students at the University of Toronto. Currently, Atkins runs an active research program and accepts graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Her research interests lie in Structural Design, Building Envelope Design, Accessible Design, Interdisciplinary Collaborative Design, Structural Demolition Waste Reuse, Building Information Modelling, and Construction Drawings.
