Biography

Andrea Barbieri is an associate professor in the Department of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in gastrointestinal, liver, endocrine, and head neck diseases. A Michigan native, she received her undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University and her MD from Wayne State University School of Medicine. After completing her residency in Pathology Laboratory Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital in 2013, she further specialized with a gastrointestinal pathology fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2014. Barbieri is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and passionately advocates for patients in her clinical work. She co-leads the Community Visibility working group on the Dean's Advisory Council for LGBTQI+ Affairs and serves as the Residency Program Director for the Anatomic Clinical Pathology residency training program. Her research interests encompass bacterial infections, mycoses, biliary tract diseases, and various neoplasms, particularly focusing on improving diagnostic quality in pathology. She actively collaborates with authors in her field, contributing to numerous publications and citations in gastrointestinal and endocrine pathology.
