Biography

Andrea Bieler has been a Professor of Practical Theology at the Faculty of Theology, University of Basel since 2017. Her current research focuses on the intersection of intercultural theology and practical philosophy, particularly phenomena related to ‘Religion in the Context of Migration’. Since 2020, she has led a project funded by the Swiss National Fund titled 'Conviviality Motion: Exploring Theologies and Practices in Multiethnic Christian Congregations in Europe'. Additionally, her research interests include vulnerability phenomena, cultural memory from trauma-hermeneutical perspectives, and the thematic exploration of collective violence. Between 2012 and 2016, she worked as a Professor of Practical Theology at the Wuppertal University. From 2000 to 2012, she was affiliated with the Pacific School of Religion and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, where she was appointed a full professor in 2008 after receiving tenure in 2003. Furthermore, she was a member of the international research network 'The Enhancing Life Project' at the University of Chicago from 2016 to 2018.
