Biography

Dr. Andrea Blanchard is an assistant professor at the Institute of Global Public Health (University of Manitoba). Her research focuses on understanding population health programs that equitably improve health outcomes for women, children, and families within diverse social, economic, and political contexts. She collaborates closely with leading academic institutions and government partners worldwide to optimize public health programs for underserved populations. Her work highlights community-based approaches that aim to reduce health inequities and influence public policy for systemic change. Dr. Blanchard’s doctoral work examined the impact of community health workers' home visits on equity in perinatal health in Uttar Pradesh, India, and her time living and working there immensely shaped her commitment to collaboratively addressing global health challenges. She further engaged with the global Countdown 2030 women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health initiative during her postdoctoral fellowship, and currently leads various international collaborations focused on maternal and newborn health strategies across numerous Sub-Saharan African countries. Dr. Blanchard also actively explores urban health equity in India, working to enhance the implementation of comprehensive primary health care strategies.
