Biography

Andrea Blomkvist joined the Centre for the Study of Perceptual Experience in 2024, holding a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship under the Lord Kelvin/Adam Smith Fellowship. In the 2023/24 academic year, she is based at the London School of Economics and Political Science as a postdoctoral researcher on Dr. Ali Boyle's UKRI-funded project "Episodic Memory: Uniquely Human?" This interdisciplinary project explores the distribution function of episodic memory. Previously, she held a position as a postdoctoral researcher working with Professor Bence Nanay at the Centre for Philosophical Psychology, University of Antwerp. In the 2021/22 academic year, she was a Teaching Associate in Cognitive Science Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Sheffield. Andrea was awarded her PhD from the University of Sheffield in 2021, under the supervision of Luca Barlassina, Dorothea Debus, and Dominic Gregory, with funding from the White Rose College of the Arts and Humanities. She also holds an MA in Cognitive Studies from the University of Sheffield (2017) and an MA (Hons) in Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh (2016). Her current research investigates how mental imagery unifies different kinds of cognitive phenomena, particularly within the realms of neuroscience and philosophy, focusing on the empirical research of the role of mental imagery in episodic memory, especially concerning individuals with aphantasia.
