Andrea Burgo-Black is a Voluntary Faculty at Yale School of Medicine and an Assistant Clinical Professor. She grew up in Zurich and attended Brown University before returning to medical school at the University of Lausanne. Dr. Burgo-Black completed her residency at New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael in 1986. She started her career caring for veterans in the national Veterans Health Administration primary care pilot and held various administrative positions managing academic community-based clinics within the VA Connecticut Healthcare System. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Burgo-Black is involved in educating medical students and residents and has contributed to numerous publications on military culture and post-deployment care. Her research interests include health systems redesign for safe, effective, holistic, patient-centered care, with a focus on integrating mental health services, integrative medicine, telehealth in primary care, and improving collaborative care models for patients with complex chronic comorbidities, particularly those involving chronic pain.
