Biography

Andrea Deierlein is an Associate Professor of Public Health Nutrition at New York University School of Global Public Health. Her research focuses on examining the dietary, behavioral, and environmental factors that contribute to reproductive health outcomes and the development of chronic diseases across the lifespan. As a trained nutritional epidemiologist, her work has explored predictors of maternal health, specifically regarding gestational weight gain, hyperglycemia, and obesity during and after pregnancy. Deierlein has contributed to systematic evidence-based reviews that informed the 2009 Institute of Medicine Gestational Weight Gain Guidelines. Her awards include the K99/R00 Pathway Independence Award, allowing her to expand her research to include the study of toxic environmental chemicals. Her recent studies have investigated associations between endocrine-disrupting toxicant exposures and childhood anthropometric changes, as well as maternal prenatal exposures to phthalates and their effects on women's health during and after pregnancy. Deierlein is also focused on addressing disability-related disparities in nutrition and reproductive health.
