Biography

Andrea Faed is a practising architect and Senior Lecturer at the Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA). Her research and teaching focus on architecture in Northern Latitudes, examining the atmospheric qualities of place, seasonal changes, and the vast horizons of untouched wilderness. She emphasizes the interplay between social and natural life within urban landscapes, highlighting the fragility of biodiversity and interconnected ecosystems. Andrea holds a degree from the Edinburgh College of Art and became a registered architect thereafter. She gained experience working with Allies and Morrison in London before founding her own practice in Edinburgh. For several years, Andrea has led the North Studio Unit for the MArch program at ESALA and has served as Course Organizer for the BA/MA second-year Place studio course. She has also been a Studio Leader for third and fourth-year design courses and a tutor for Academic Portfolio Design Report courses, in addition to being a Dissertation Supervisor. Her teaching includes exploring architecture in the northern temperate zone, examining the changing urban environments around the Baltic Sea, and investigating the complexities of the northern Arctic landscape. Her courses encourage students to engage with the interaction between architecture and the experiences of place.
