Biography

Andrea Fuster is an Assistant Professor in the Mathematical Image Analysis group within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her areas of expertise include mathematical image analysis and theoretical physics, with a focus on differential geometry in the context of diffusion MRI and extensions of general relativity. Fuster's research has a highly interdisciplinary character, combining elements of physics, mathematics, and medical imaging. She obtained her PhD in theoretical physics from the Free University Amsterdam in 2007, where her thesis focused on general relativity. Prior to that, she received her MSc in theoretical physics from the University of the Basque Country in Spain and spent time as an exchange student at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands through the Erasmus program. Since 2014, Fuster has held her position at TU/e after completing several years of postdoctoral work. She has also served as the chair of the WISE-Network, supporting female scientists at TU/e, and coordinated the Multiscale Science & Engineering honors program for excellent bachelor students. She has organized various international workshops and seminars, including the CDMRI workshops for MICCAI in 2015 and 2016, and the Dagstuhl Seminar on Visualization and Processing of Anisotropy in Geometry, Imaging, and Astronomy in 2018. Fuster has authored over 35 publications in the fields of physics, mathematics, and medical imaging and has edited books on Computational Diffusion MRI for Springer.
