Biography

Andrea Galmozzi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research primarily focuses on the identification of adipocyte functional pathways that can be pharmacologically modulated to treat metabolic disorders, including obesity and type 2 diabetes. He is particularly interested in understanding signaling metabolites, especially endogenous ligands of nuclear receptors, that are trafficked within cells. Dr. Galmozzi employs a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses physiology, chemical biology (including chemoproteomics and metabolomics), and molecular and cellular biology, utilizing in vivo models of metabolic disease. His work aims to elucidate the molecular pathways responsible for the trafficking of signaling metabolites, which can shed light on the crosstalk between metabolism and gene transcription, revealing fundamental mechanisms of cell biology that may open new avenues for therapeutic modulation of gene expression.
