Biography

Andrea Krüsi is an Assistant Professor in the School of Criminology at Simon Fraser University (SFU). She leads a research program that intersects criminal law, policing, and public health. Her work focuses on how criminal laws and policing stigma interact with structural vulnerabilities such as racialization, poverty, and immigration status, shaping experiences of gender-based violence, HIV/STI risks, and access to healthcare for criminalized and marginalized populations, including sex workers and women living with HIV. Krüsi’s research is grounded in community-based principles and draws on critical social science scholarship through an intersectionality paradigm. Utilizing multiple research techniques, including qualitative and arts-based methods, she contributes to longstanding cohort studies involving sex workers and women living with HIV. Her research is guided by a community advisory board and involves collaborations with several organizations, including PACE Society and the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network.
