Andrea LaCroix is a Professor and Division Chief in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. She received her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed a postdoctoral fellowship focused on cardiovascular disease at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. LaCroix has over 17 years of experience at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center leading activities at the Women's Health Initiative Clinical Coordinating Center. She has also held a faculty position at the University of Washington from 1989 to 2013 as a Senior Scientific Investigator at Group Health Research Institute. Her research primarily focuses on identifying behavioral, pharmaceutical, biomarker, and genetic factors associated with the development of chronic diseases, particularly cancer and cardiovascular conditions among older postmenopausal women. Dr. LaCroix is a principal investigator in major clinical trials, including the Fracture Intervention Trial and the PEARL Trial, as well as the Menopause Strategies: Finding Lasting Answers for Symptoms Health (MsFLASH). Additionally, she has served on the National Advisory Council on Aging and chaired the Clinical Trials Advisory Panel for the National Institute on Aging. In 2010, she received the McDougall Mentoring Award for her dedication to the development of postdoctoral fellows. Dr. LaCroix is also the Director of UCSD's Women's Health Center of Excellence, which was launched in December 2013 and has authored over 300 publications.
