Dr. Andrea Mason

Biography

Andrea Mason is a Professor and Department Chairperson in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her professional journey began with a Ph.D. in Human Motor Systems at Simon Fraser University, studying under Dr. Christine MacKenzie. Since joining UW-Madison in January 2002, Mason has focused her research on the dynamics of motor control and coordination, particularly in the context of various age groups and populations, including individuals with autism spectrum disorder. She has contributed significantly to the understanding of kinematic grip force patterns during human interaction with objects and the impact of visual feedback on grasping and moving items in virtual environments. Throughout her career, Mason has published numerous articles in prominent journals, presenting her findings at various national and international conferences. She has earned accolades such as the Conway Professor Award in Kinesiology in 2021 and several career grants from the National Science Foundation and other esteemed institutions. Mason aims to enhance the understanding of motor functions and improve therapeutic strategies for those with neurological and developmental challenges.
