Andrea Ott is a Professor of EU External Relations Law at the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University, where he holds the Jean Monnet Chair in EU Law. He studied law at the University of Cologne from 1988 to 1993 and completed his legal education at the District Court of Cologne in 1997. He has held a position as a researcher at the Chair of International European Law at the University of Greifswald, Germany, from 1994 to 1995, and obtained his PhD in 1996 on the integration of GATT/WTO law into the EU legal order. Asser Institute in The Hague, Netherlands, and was a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, during the 2002/2003 academic year. Professor Ott has significant experience in legal consultancy for Dutch ministries and the European Commission, focusing on Central and Eastern Europe. His teaching areas include EU institutional law, EU external relations, and WTO law, particularly in relation to the Netherlands, Central and Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia, including China. He was a visiting guest professor in International Economic Law at the M.A. in European Studies program at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, in 1999. He regularly teaches the Jean Monnet Module on EU External Relations at Maastricht University and co-directs the Centre for European Research Maastricht (CERIM). He is also a scholar at the Maastricht Centre for European Law (MCEL) and serves as a member of the editorial committee for the Maastricht Journal of European Comparative Law. Additionally, he is a board member of the Centre of EU External Relations Law (CLEER).
