Biography

Andrea E. Rizzoli holds a Ph.D. in Control Engineering Informatics awarded by Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He is a senior research scientist at IDSIA and a professor at SUPSI. His research interests include simulation and decision support systems, with involvement in the development of simulation models across various contexts, including natural resources modeling and logistics for industrial systems. He has authored more than 100 publications on these subjects. In 2001, Rizzoli received the 'Early Career Research Excellence' award from the Modelling Simulation Society in Australia and New Zealand. In 2004, he became a Fellow of the International Environmental Modelling Software Society. His work aims to develop and utilize modeling software tools to advance science and improve decision-making concerning resource and environmental issues. Rizzoli currently serves as an editor for the international journal Environmental Modelling & Software and was elected President of the International Environmental Modelling Software Society for the biennium 2012-2014. His expertise extends to modeling and simulation of dynamic systems and applications of operations research and artificial intelligence techniques for the management and control of natural resources and decision support systems in transportation logistics. He also focuses on designing integrated management software systems for natural resources.
