Andrea Vacca earned his Ph.D. from the University of Florence, Italy, in 2005, presenting a thesis in the field of Gas Turbine Blade Cooling Technology. He joined Purdue University in 2010 after serving as an Assistant Professor in Fluid Machinery at the University of Parma, Italy. His major research interest since 2002 has been fluid power technology, focusing on improving energy efficiency and controllability of fluid power systems, as well as reducing noise and emissions from fluid power components. To achieve these goals, he has developed original numerical and experimental techniques for hydraulic systems and components, particularly gear machines and hydraulic control valves. Vacca has authored over 150 papers published in international journals and conferences and is an active member of the fluid power research community. He serves on the faculty of the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP) and as co-chair of the Fluid Power Systems Technology Division (FPST) of ASME. He is also the Treasurer and Secretary of the Board for the Global Fluid Power Society (GFPS), and he has served as the Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Fluid Power. Additionally, he has received various awards for his work, including the SAE Excellence Oral Presentation Award in 2010 and the Outstanding Teaching Award from the Agricultural Biological Engineering Department in 2015.
