Biography

Andrea Walkden's research primarily focuses on Early Modern Literature, particularly the reception of literature in Restoration and Eighteenth-Century England. She is the author of "Private Lives Made Public: Invention Biography Early Modern England" (Duquesne University Press, 2016), which won the John T. Shawcross Award from the Milton Society of America. The work investigates the rise of biographical writing following the execution of King Charles in 1649, analyzing how biographical populism challenges public culture. Walkden is currently working on a monograph titled "Foreign Policy Poetics," which examines early modern lyric as a medium reflecting Britain's changing relations with Europe. She has extensive teaching experience, having spent eleven years at the University of Toronto's Department of English and previously taught at Queens College, City University of New York. Her interdisciplinary approach incorporates insights from the Renaissance Studies Program at Victoria College. Her contributions to the field include articles in notable journals and upcoming scholarly editions of significant literary works.
