Biography

Andrea Stevenson Won is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Cornell University, where she directs the Virtual Embodiment Lab. Her research focuses on how mediated experiences influence people’s perceptions, particularly through immersive media. This includes exploring clinical applications of virtual reality and the effects of nonverbal behavior in rendered virtual environments on collaboration and teamwork. Andrea completed her PhD at the Virtual Human Interaction Lab in the Department of Communication at Stanford University, after earning an MS in Biomedical Visualization from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She teaches courses such as Communication Virtual Worlds (COMM 4380), Graduate Research (COMM 7990), Independent Reading Research (INFO 4900), Independent Research (COMM 4990), and Quantitative Research Methods (COMM 6820).
