Dr. Andrea Zemgulys

Biography

Andrea Zemgulys is an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan, where she also has a courtesy appointment in Women and Gender Studies. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley in 2001, and holds an A.B. from the University of Chicago (1992). Her research interests focus on modernist literature, particularly its intersection with urbanization and memory. She has published the book 'Modernism Locations Literary Heritage' (Cambridge, 2008; paperback, 2012) and her articles have appeared in leading journals such as Modernism/Modernity and Women: Cultural Review. Andrea teaches courses on modernism and contemporary literatures, with a particular emphasis on women writers and the social history of gender politics. Her current research includes a project that examines the graphic arts in modern literature from the nineteenth to the twenty-first centuries.
