Dr. Andreas Athienitis

Biography

Dr. Andreas K. Athienitis is a Professor in Building Engineering at Concordia University and Director of the Centre for Zero Energy Building Studies. He obtained a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in 1981 and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1985. He has led numerous NSERC strategic networks related to buildings, was appointed a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, ASHRAE, and IBPSA, and has received various prestigious awards for his contributions to the field. Dr. Athienitis' research interests include Solar Energy Engineering, Energy Efficiency, and the integration of photovoltaics into building systems. He has been involved in significant projects such as the SNEBRN and SBRN networks, and has supervised over 100 students, many of whom have taken academic positions in Canada and abroad. His laboratory facilities are notable for hosting unique innovations aimed at developing net-zero energy buildings. He actively participates in scholarly activities, including serving as an associate editor for the ISES Journal 'Solar Energy' and contributing to international collaborations on solar energy systems. His teaching includes advanced courses on solar building modeling and energy resources.
