Dr. Andreas Broeckmann

Biography

Andreas Broeckmann is an art historian and curator based in Berlin. He currently holds a Visiting Professor position at the Malmö Art Academy and participates in the PhD Program there. His academic journey spans multiple institutions, including Honorary Professorship and visiting positions at distinguished art academies and universities, such as the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig and Oldenburg University. Broeckmann's work emphasizes the intersection of art and media theory, and from 2011 to 2016, he served as Artistic Director of the Leuphana Arts Program. As an independent curator, he has organized numerous exhibitions at notable venues including Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, focusing on modern and contemporary art as well as digital culture. His academic background encompasses studies in art history, sociology, and media studies, culminating in a PhD from the University of East Anglia, UK. Broeckmann is also known for his editorial work, including contributions to the publication 'Place Studies in Art, Media, Science Technology' and his monograph, 'Machine Art Twentieth Century', published by MIT Press in 2016. He actively engages in research and documentation projects and maintains memberships in professional artistic associations.
