Biography

Andreas Engert is a Visiting Scholar at the University of Chicago Law School and a professor of law at Freie Universität Berlin. He is a research member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) and co-founder of the Freie Universität Empirical Legal Research Center (FUELS). Engert graduated from the University of Tübingen, Germany, with a first state exam in law in 1997. He obtained his LL.M. degree from the University of Chicago in 2000 and completed his doctorate in 2003, followed by habilitation in 2008 at the University of Munich. He has served as a professor of law at the University of Cologne starting in 2010 and at the University of Mannheim from 2010 until 2019. In 2019, he joined the Department of Law at Freie Universität Berlin. His research interests include contract law, corporate law, and financial markets regulation, with a special emphasis on empirical economic perspectives. Engert has written extensively on corporate finance law, contract law, investment fund regulation, and social norms in legal contexts.
